GreenPan vs Caraway is the most common showdown for shoppers who want nonstick pans made without PTFE or PFAS. Both brands sell sand-derived ceramic nonstick cookware, but they take very different approaches: GreenPan offers more than ten collections at a wide range of prices, while Caraway sells one signature aluminum set with clever storage. We compared specs, expert testing and owner reviews, focusing on GreenPan’s popular Valencia Pro line and Caraway’s 12-piece Cookware Set.

The short answer
Buy GreenPan (especially Valencia Pro) if you want ceramic nonstick for less money, sturdier hard-anodized construction, better heat retention and the option to choose a collection that fits your stove and budget. Buy Caraway if you want a cohesive, good-looking set with pan organizers and a lid holder included, and slightly longer-lasting nonstick in expert stress tests. Our overall pick for most kitchens is GreenPan Valencia Pro, because it delivers similar everyday performance at a lower price; Caraway is the better pick if design and storage are priorities.

Coating and safety
Both brands use a ceramic nonstick derived from sand rather than a traditional PTFE coating, and both say their pans are made without PFAS. GreenPan’s coating is called Thermolon, and it comes in several versions; Valencia Pro uses Thermolon Advanced, which GreenPan reinforces with diamonds. Caraway uses a proprietary mineral-based ceramic coating on the interior, exterior and lids, and it publishes third-party lab results on its site. Taste of Home notes that, as with any ceramic cookware, shoppers who care about chemistry should look at how coatings are bonded, not only at the coating itself.
Winner: Tie. Both make similar PTFE-free and PFAS-free claims, and Caraway’s published lab results are a nice touch.
Nonstick performance and durability
Ceramic nonstick is famously less durable than traditional nonstick, so this is the category that matters most over time. In Prudent Reviews’ stress tests (scraping, drops, beater scrapes and thermal shock), Caraway kept its slick surface slightly better than GreenPan Valencia Pro, and both did better than GreenPan’s stainless GP5 line. One Taste of Home editor found her GreenPan lost a little of its release within six months, while another got about three years of daily use from a Caraway fry pan before the coating chipped, after using metal tools and harsh scrubbers.
The flip side: Prudent Reviews found Caraway’s colorful exterior coating can chip and flake over time, while GreenPan’s hard-anodized and stainless exteriors wear better.
Winner: Caraway, by a small margin on interior nonstick life; GreenPan’s exteriors hold up better.
Heat performance
In Prudent Reviews’ water-boil test, Caraway heated a little faster than a hard-anodized GreenPan, but the GreenPan held its heat noticeably longer after the burner was turned off. Taste of Home found GreenPan Valencia Pro distributed heat evenly, while its Caraway pan ran hotter in the center than at the edges. Both brands recommend low to medium heat to protect the coating, and Caraway specifically advises against high heat.
Winner: GreenPan, for more even heating and better heat retention.
Stovetop, oven and care
Every Caraway piece works on gas, electric and induction cooktops, and the pans and lids are oven-safe to 550°F. GreenPan’s specs depend on the collection: Valencia Pro is induction-ready and its top lines go up to 600°F in the oven, but some aluminum-bottom GreenPan lines will not work on induction and glass lids have lower limits. GreenPan also says its diamond-reinforced coatings tolerate metal utensils, while Caraway advises wooden, silicone or nylon tools.
On cleaning, sources disagree about whether Caraway belongs in the dishwasher, and most GreenPan lines are listed as dishwasher-safe. For either brand, hand washing with a soft sponge is the best way to extend the life of the coating.
Winner: GreenPan, for higher oven limits and metal-utensil tolerance on lines like Valencia Pro, as long as you check the collection.
Design, storage and set contents
This is where Caraway shines. Its 12-piece set includes a 10.5-inch fry pan, 3-quart saucepan, 4.5-quart sauté pan and 6.5-quart Dutch oven, three lids, four magnetic pan organizers and a canvas lid holder that mounts to a cabinet door. The pans come in a range of colors and the stainless handles sit parallel to the cooktop for a clean look.
GreenPan has far more choice, from budget aluminum sets to clad stainless and premium lines, in many colors and handle styles. It does not include storage accessories, and Taste of Home noted some GreenPan bundles skip lids.
Winner: Caraway, for a complete, well-organized set.
Value
Prudent Reviews places most GreenPan collections in a lower price bracket than Caraway, and Taste of Home’s price check found a GreenPan Valencia Pro 10-inch fry pan for roughly half the cost of Caraway’s 10.5-inch fry pan. GreenPan also backs its coating for two years versus Caraway’s one-year limited warranty. Caraway’s sets frequently go on sale and include storage you would otherwise buy separately, which narrows the gap.
Winner: GreenPan.
Pros and cons
GreenPan (Valencia Pro)

Caraway Cookware Set
|
What owners say (GreenPan): Owners like the light weight, easy cleanup and price, but a common complaint is that eggs start to stick after several months of regular use, especially if the pans are run hot or go through the dishwasher.
What owners say (Caraway): Buyers love the look, the storage system and how easily food releases at first, while complaints center on chipped exteriors and coatings that wear faster when people use metal tools or high heat.

Which should you buy?
Choose GreenPan if: you want ceramic nonstick on a budget, you cook on induction or need high oven temperatures (check the collection), you prefer a sturdier exterior, or you want to buy individual pans rather than a full set.
Choose Caraway if: you want a matching, colorful set that stays organized in the cabinet, you value the slightly longer-lasting interior coating seen in testing, and you are happy to stick to low to medium heat and non-metal tools.
Our pick: GreenPan Valencia Pro is the better value for most cooks. Caraway is worth the extra money if storage and style matter to you.

FAQ
Is GreenPan or Caraway safer?
Both brands say their ceramic coatings are made without PTFE, PFOA and PFAS, and Caraway also lists lead and cadmium. Neither uses a traditional Teflon-style coating. To get the most life out of either, avoid overheating empty pans and follow the manufacturer’s heat guidance.
Does Caraway work on induction?
Yes. Every Caraway pot and pan has a magnetic steel base plate and works on induction, gas and electric cooktops. With GreenPan, induction compatibility depends on the collection; Valencia Pro is induction-ready.
How long does ceramic nonstick last?
It varies with use. Expert testers and owners report anywhere from several months to a few years before food starts to stick, depending on heat, utensils and cleaning. Low to medium heat, a little oil or butter and hand washing help it last longer.
Can you use metal utensils on GreenPan?
GreenPan says its diamond-reinforced Thermolon coatings, like the one on Valencia Pro, tolerate metal utensils. Caraway recommends wood, silicone or nylon tools instead. Softer tools are kinder to any ceramic coating.
