Coffee roasters by region
We’re working through the country one region at a time, looking at roasters that ship nationwide: the Pacific Northwest, California, Colorado and the Mountain West, Texas, the Midwest, the Northeast, the Southeast and Hawaii’s Kona coast. Start with our region-by-region overview, and new regional guides will appear in the list above as they’re published.
How we pick
We compare roaster details, sourcing, freshness practices, expert reviews and owner feedback, then summarize who each pick suits and where it falls short. We don’t list exact prices because they change constantly, and commissions never decide our picks.
FAQ
Whole bean or ground coffee?
Whole bean stays fresh longer because grinding exposes far more of the coffee to air. If you can, buy whole bean and grind right before brewing. Even an entry-level burr grinder makes a noticeable difference.
How fresh should coffee be?
Look for a roast date on the bag, not just a best-by date. Many roasters suggest brewing within a few weeks of roasting for the best flavor, which is one reason subscriptions that ship soon after roasting are popular.
